Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts

Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts (RAFA) was inaugurated by the late Mr. S. Nadesapillai (Former Minister of Post and Telecommunication) in memory of his father-in-law, Sir Ponnampalam Ramanathan on the 6th of October 1960. At the time of establishing the Jaffna Campus in the year 1974, the late Prime Minister Hon. Sirimavo Bandranayake and the Education Minister Dr. Al. Haj. Badudeen Mohammed accepted in principle to absorb the Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts into the university system. The Jaffna Campus took over the Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts (RAFA) and brought it under the Faculty of Arts on the 1st of December 1975 and conducted four-year Diploma courses in Carnatic Music and Bharathanatiyam under the Department of Performing Arts.
